Offering more than a dozen venues across the historic site and the North Carolina History Center, Tryon Palace is capable of hosting everything from grand receptions, award ceremonies, and concerts, to formal dinners, VIP receptions, seminars, and banquets.

North Carolina History Center

Bate Commons and Mattocks Hall

The North Carolina History Center offers indoor ambiance and waterfront views at its most popular combination venue of Mattocks Hall and Bate Commons.

Bate Commons

Ideal for open-air or tented-top gatherings, Bate Commons offers a protected courtyard bordering a beautiful wetland gardens boardwalk on the Trent River. 

  • Capacity: 200 standing, 100 seated 
  • Description: Approximately 3,500 sq. ft., outdoors
  • Rental Fee (Includes Mattocks Hall): $3,000 ($2,100 nonprofit)

Mattocks Hall

From the sweeping vaulted atrium ceiling to the columned corridors, Mattocks Hall is a perfectly grand setting for special dinners, wedding receptions, and other milestone celebrations.

  • Capacity: 500 standing, 350 seated 
  • Description: Approximately 4,197 sq. ft., indoors
  • Rental Fee (Includes Bate Commons): $3,000 ($2,100 nonprofit) 

Debnam-Hunt Board Room

This sophisticated, upper-story windowed board room, with a balcony overlooking the Trent River, will bring your meeting to life with its elegance and beautiful views.

  • Capacity: 50 standing, 28 seated 
  • Description: Approximately 832 sq. ft. with fully-loaded state-of-the-art presentation equipment, including audio/video, internet, nearby breakout rooms, adjoining catering room and kitchen
  • Rental Fee: $350 ($245 nonprofit) 

Cullman Performance Hall

Beautiful auditorium perfect for presentations and performances designed by members of the same team that designed the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Great acoustics and site lines, just more intimate.

  • Capacity: 192 seated, plus four wheelchair locations 
  • Description: Stage, raked seating, theatre lighting, HD video/audio with large screen
  • Rental Fee: $500 ($300 nonprofit) | Add reception area $1,000 ($700 nonprofit)

Cannon Gateway Gallery

Windowed gallery that includes large Tryon Palace 3-D site model, New Bern historic guideline, Barbour Boat Works display, and more. Ideal for standing receptions.

  • Capacity: 75 standing. 
  • Description: Approximately 1,792 sq. ft.
  • Rental Fee: $600 ($420 nonprofit)

Chance-Kemp Orientation Theater

Inviting, partially enclosed space for lectures and presentations. Also ideal for small dinners.

  • Capacity: 60 standing, 40 seated for dinner, 48 seated theater-style 
  • Description: 612 sq. ft., A/V with retractable projection screen
  • Rental Fee:

Wainwright Activity Classroom

Multipurpose room for small group activities in informal meetings. Crafting clubs and other activity groups will appreciate the ample workspace.

  • Capacity: 20 seated 
  • Description: 461 sq. ft., work tables, double sink
  • Rental Fee: $100 ($70 nonprofit)

 

Historic Side

Ca.1880 Commission House

A beautifully historic setting for meetings, small weddings, receptions, and rehearsal dinners - and a lovely garden for your guests to enjoy.

  • Capacity: 75 standing, 50 seated 
  • Description: 1st floor – 1,300 sq. ft., kitchen, indoors
  • Rental Fee: $600 ($420 nonprofit)
